Model Car Mecca is well on its way to becoming the premier model car hobby show in Western Canada. As the name implies, the main focus of the show is a Western Canadian Model Car Championship which for our inaugural event, we provided a level playing field for the most talented model car builders in Canada and the United States of America. Both novice and experienced builders put down 270 models on the tables and both enjoyed a well judged and accurate model car contest. 2008 will bring more of the same.

The show this year started the beginning of our journey to provide a showcase for Western Canada’s and the Pacific Northwest’s talented builders and raise awareness in the hobby industry that there is a movement here in Canada that they need to recognize. We are blessed with a great venue and an even better caliber of builders and it is our aim to showcase their work and get the recognition they all so much deserve.

It is also our intention to promote automotive hobbies to the general public. In 2007 we started to do that by introducing the general public to the art of automotive scale modeling and the related automotive hobbies. For 2008 we will continue to build on that and offer more variety and exciting activities.

Traditionally, model car shows have usually been a small production run by local clubs or community groups with a limited scope and a limited budget. Our production changed that perspective by creating a revolutionary total automotive hobby event. Presented by commercial sponsors and local hobby businesses, promoted by Cougar Motorsports, Model Car Mecca will continue to entertain both participants and the general public.

The show will now have an appeal to more than just model car builders, but automotive enthusiasts, hobby enthusiasts and families looking for an enjoyable day activity, all will find value in attending Model Car Mecca. I encourage you to stay connected by viewing the website, www.modelcarmecca.com and applying via email for our e-newsletter, The Blue Mountain Gang Gazette which chronicles our build group and Model Car Mecca.

Next year we will build on this year’s success and create a larger print media campaign, promote the show more vigorously at automotive events and work harder to spread the word about MCM. I would like to see more of our friends from the United States as I think they have a lot to offer to MCM’s success. I am hopeful the exposure we provide to the local general public will increase interest in the hobby and that local hobby shops and aftermarket businesses will get the support they deserve. In all it will be a tremendous effort to wrap this all up in a successful package and lay the ground work for a very cohesive and well supported movement, one which you will be able to contributed to in 2008, we thank you for that and look forward to what the future holds.
