HobbyLink Japan to sponsor MCM
HobbyLink Japan is a new sponsor for Model Car Meca 2008 and we couldn't be more
excited. It is our intention to welcome international support to MCM as we
develop the show and expand interest globally and domestically. As Model Car
Mecca grows in size and popularity it will have done so because of strong
interest within the hobby and a strong bond with our corparate sponsors.
Gaining the support of a well known global sponsor is a real boost for the
show and we want to thank HLJ for coming on board this year.
Slot Car Racing Returns to MCM
Slot car racing will return to Model Car Mecca, presented by On Track Hobbies.
Come to the show and race a selection of slot cars on our huge 8'x 8' track.
A small donation to our charities is all we ask and in return spend the day trying to set the
fastest lap time and win a prize! On Track was involved as a sponsor for our innaugeral event
and they return this year promoting the show's slot car racing track and their broad selection
of slot car tracks and cars. They will have a booth at the show selling slot cars and model kits,
so be sure to visit thier booth and thank them for bringing slot car racing back to MCM.

Judging Changes For MCM '08
At the innaugural Model Car Mecca the judges employed a system where models were judged on a
numbering system. Each area of the model: Body, Interior, Engine, Chassis, and Wheels were
given a numerical value based on the detection of flaws and mistakes and the numbers were
added up to make a final score. The final score would determine the class rankings. Although
the results were accurate and fair, the process was very time consuming and it resulted in
missing our target times to finish which may have affected our timetable to present awards
nd finsih the event. For 2008 Model Car Mecca will emply a larger group of judges and return
to a more traditional form of judging. We will not be using the numerical system. The judges
will employ the judging guidlines set out in our competion outline and make decisions based
on those guidlines. The category will face a number of cuts to isolate the four or five best
models in the category. Once set on thier final group, they will judge each model on its own
merits and the models built closest to the judging guidelines will be succesful. They will not
allow subjective ideas into the judging process and we are confident the results will be accurate
and transparent. We are streamlining our judging process so we can better meet our objectives and
ensure we meet our obligations to our entrants and guests.
MCM Charities, 2007 results
The innaugural Model Car Mecca was able to raise a
significant contribution to our charities. We were fortunate enough to raise
over $1000.00 for our two charities, BC Childrens Hospital and JRFM's Basics for
Babies. Thanks to the generous people who participated in our auction and raffle
we will be donating the money to our deserving charities. Many thanks to those
of you who participated.
2007 Results
Thanks to all of our Participants
We would like to thank the 50 builders who
contributed 300 models to the 2007 Model Car Mecca. We had a wide variety of
models in all of our categories with only three of the 40 with less than five
entries. The builders travelled from all over British Columbia, Alberta,
Washington State and Oregon. The caliber of builds was fantastic and leaves us
with a very high standard to build on for 2008. Thanks again to all of you who
participated for making our innaugural event so successful.

Model Car Mecca will be a JUDGED EVENT!
It was decided to elevate the standards of the show and the nature of competition by making all of the categories
judged by panel. We will ensure the judges are well experienced, fair and logical.
We believe it will enhance the show and legitimize the model car championship.
Builders need not be intimidated nor disillusioned as we will ensure the results
are based on high quality builds adhering to our outline of basic assembly
standards and excellence in fit and finish.

promote our raffle and the resulting media exposure will undoubtedly benefit
both the hospital and Model Car Mecca. Please view the
